The Role of Organizational Culture in Shaping Work Discipline among Millennials and Generation Z
Abstrak
This study examines the role of organizational culture in shaping work discipline among Millennials and Generation Z, who currently dominate the workforce. Rapid changes in work values, increasing demand for flexibility, and technology-oriented work practices have challenged organizations to develop adaptive cultures that encourage discipline. Although previous studies have explored organizational culture and work discipline independently, limited research has synthesized the mechanisms through which organizational culture fosters work discipline across these younger generations. This study addresses this gap by identifying the organizational culture values and processes that influence disciplinary behavior among Millennials and Generation Z. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on the PRISMA guidelines was conducted by analyzing 20 scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025. The findings reveal that organizational culture values, including integrity, responsibility, collaboration, and flexibility, significantly contribute to the development of work discipline. The review further identifies value internalization, leadership role modeling, organizational communication, and fair reward and sanction systems as the primary mechanisms through which organizational culture shapes disciplinary behavior. Theoretically, this study extends the understanding of organizational culture as a behavioral mechanism for fostering work discipline across generational differences. Practically, it provides insights for organizations to develop adaptive, value-based, and human-centered human resource management strategies that align with the characteristics and expectations of Millennials and Generation Z.
