Triage is a process of classifying patients based on the type and severity of their condition. Triage is needed in emergency services so that patients can be treated optimally. The emergency room became the most visited place for patients resulting in a buildup of overcrowded patients. The design of this study was descriptive and observed 22 nurses performing triage on 171 patients in emergency room during overcrowded situation.
Keywords: Emergency Departement, Overcrowded, Triage
Based on the results of this study, it was found that overcrowding often occurs during daylight sift and most nurses are able to perform triage correctly as many as 98.2% (168 patients) but there are 1.8% (3 patients) who are misplaced during implementation.
Nurses can perform triage appropriately because they are supported by good experience and skills. However, triage errors can still occur if there is overcrowding. To reduce errors, additional manpower, facilities and infrastructure in the emergency room are needed so that services can be more optimal.
